AOK launches medication comparator website

German health insurer, AOK, has launched a new database that lets users compare different medications.

The database, on AOK’s website, is available to free to all registered members, where they can compare any drugs for any condition.

Both prescription drugs and those freely on sale are included, and the database distinguishes between the two categories, with a total of 9000 different medicines covered.

The website offers the users information on symptoms, interactive tables assessing different drugs, comparisons of different active ingredients, and tips on self-medication and prevention. It also list potential side effects of each drug.

General descriptions of the medicines’ applications are accessible without charge on the website, with more detailed information costing €3 per application.

The database is searchable in several different ways – by symptoms, by named illnesses or by areas of the body, and will also show price comparisons for any drug with compositions relating to the user’s search terms.
