The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has signed a multi-year deal with Carestream Health to provide a radiology information system across two of its sites.

The company will install the latest version of its Carestream RIS at Chelsea in London and Sutton in Surrey.

The trust is looking for a fully integrated system that is capable of providing radiation dose tracking, user alerts and critical results notifications.

The RIS also offers data collection and reporting capabilities and can be used to track imaging exams and radiation therapy treatment.

Mikki Grinstead, radiology services manager, diagnostic radiology at the The Royal Marsden, said: “Carestream’s version 11 RIS is an extremely configurable product.

"When installed, it will allow us to minimise [our] clinical risks with regards to requesting, scheduling, and documentation and reporting. We look forward to working with Carestream on this project.”

The trust went out to tender for the system in August 2009 and selected Carestream following a thorough evaluation process. It will begin implementing the system during the second half of 2010.

Charlie McCaffrey, managing director of Carestream Health, UK and Ireland, said: “Our new RIS offers an impressive set of features that are designed to achieve greater configurability, flexibility and workflow efficiency, especially across a multi-site environment like that of the Royal Marsden.”

“In addition, the ability to input dose measurements that are compared with user-defined thresholds was particularly beneficial to the Royal Marsden to minimise the potential for overexposure for enhanced patient care.”
